GRID - A Visual Research Project by Art van Triest. Grids are present everywhere in our daily lives: from our agenda, excel sheets and work schedules to architectural grids and the design of public spaces. Grids provide guidance and structure the inevitable chaos that would arise without them. But the grids can also come to dominate our lives if they gain the upper hand and lose their relation to daily reality.
Grid - A Visual Research Project provides insight into Arts' long-term visual research in which he literally and figuratively subjects grids to the vagaries of an unpredictable world of forces and influences that affect and distort them. The book consists of documentation of his works in various media, images from exhibitions and images of his creative process in the studio. In addition to his visual research, Art asked a number of people from different fields outside the arts (a psychologist, philosopher, microbiologist and a planner) to comment on his work, and whether they encounter 'grids' within their field or life, how they relate to it and what influence they have.
