Jeanine Vloemans makes paintings, murals, sculptures and wall objects that together form a world of their own in the form of installations. These presentations can be seen temporarily in exhibitions, residencies and even in the studio. That is why we want to bring Jeanines work from the past 7 years together in this publication from the ‘Introducing’ series, that introduces promising young artists to a larger audience.
A text written by Nanne Op ‘t Ende examines Jeanines visual language in her own unique way, and in a longer interview in which Jeanine talks to Julienne Tullemans: curator and programmer at De Cacaofabriek Expo in Helmond, they delve into her thought process and you will learn more about the background of Jeanines work.
“Something’s afoot in Jeanine Vloemans oeuvre, everything is shifting constantly. Figures and symbols transform from one work to another like strange elusive creatures that keep appearing in a different guise. Triangles become snakes become mountains become crowns… Or have they always essentially been volcanos? Vloemans depicts the smoke billowing from the crater as well as the calm before the storm and a dark growl deep underground. She paints birds that suddenly fall silent or two volcanos on their side, craters pressed together as if one eruption wouldn’t suffice. Her deceptively naïve images are saturated with mighty experience, with myths and cosmological stories. In Pyramus and Thisbe, a volcanic outburst brings forth the night sky, bright stars lurch towards their destination in a deep blue heaven, glowing lava traces blood-red arches across the sides while the ill-fated lovers avert their eyes. Sun and moon appear in the firmament together, a recurring indication that we are in a state between wakefulness and sleep, where imagination reigns supreme.”
